FMS allows the crew to calculate a temperature-compensated altitude to use as the minimum altitude for an approach. In cold air, the altitude constraint compensates up to the aircraft’s true altitude; in hot air, true altitude is compensated downward.
Allows the pilot fly below/above the published temperature limits for any RNAV procedures using Baro VNAV (barometric vertical navigation). Enhances safety by accurately complying with the altitude constraints and provides adequate path clearance to any obstacles/terrain.
